Windows crash problem

In this article I am going to talk about the problem that most windows user might have already experienced a lot of times. The crashing and freezing.

Well, crashing and freezing are two different kind of problems you will have for your windows basically. So, about this two problems in brief:

Freezing: This happens when the system becomes extremely unstable or busy. When you are running a lot of big programs at a same with with a small amount of system memory or RAM them you might have a lot of this problem. And if you had a lot of this problems in the past then you might have been the sufferer of a great amount of work. So, I hope this article might be helpful for you.

Blue Screen of Death: I think this is the "best crash" Microsoft have ever made for people using its windows. So, I think people using the Microsoft windows are already familiar with this problem.

So, here you will learn how you can help yourself from that or basically how can you prevent it from happening in the future so that you won't lose any of your work.

Ok, here are the reasons for those problems stated in above paragraphs.

  •  What I believe to be the number one reason for the crash like the blue screen death is the hardware conflict in your computer. Each hardware in your computer will communicate with other devices through something called the interrupt request channel which is shortly referred as  IRQs. They are generally differentiated with some number. So, These IRQ are supposed to be unique for each device on your computer. For example, usually the IRQ of keyboard is 1, for printer is 7 and so on. And each of these devices try to get a single IRQ for each of them. So, when there are more devices there is more chances or this failure. To check if you have this problem of having same IRQ for two devices, Right click My Computer>Goto Hardware Tab> click on device manager. There if you see any yellow exclamation mark by the side of any hardware then right click the little computer icon at the top of that space and click properties. There you will see the IRQ numbers used by different devices. Go there and see if there are repeated  IRQ number. If there is then there may be more than one device using the same IRQ. Sometimes a device might share an IRQ with something described as 'IRQ holder for PCI steering'. And this can be ignored. The best way to fix this problem is reinstall the device either with updated softwares. You can always check your device for newer version on internet. www.driver.softpedia.com is one of the good one. If you could not find the driver for your device contact me. My email and info is by the right side of this page. I will try to help you personally.

  • The other problem could be your Bios Setting.  In the motherboard of your computer the company puts a list of information on the chipset that is called the BIOS or the Basic Input Output System. A common way to access these settings is to press the F2 or delete button during the first few seconds of a boot-up.
    Once inside the BIOS, great care should be taken. You should basically be an expert to use it because if you are not then a slight mistake in the BIOS setting may make your computer never start again without changing to its original settings. So, be careful.
    A common BIOS error concerns the CAS latency. This refers to the Ram. Older EDO (extended data out) Ram has a CAS latency of 3. Newer SDRam has a CAS latency of 2. Setting the wrong figure can cause the Ram to lock up and freeze the computer's display.
    Microsoft Windows is better at allocating IRQ numbers than any BIOS. If possible set the IRQ numbers to Auto in the BIOS. This will allow Windows to allocate the IRQ numbers (make sure the BIOS setting for Plug and Play OS is switched to 'yes' to allow Windows to do this.).

  • Ram (random-access memory) problems might bring on the blue screen of death with a message saying Fatal Exception Error. A fatal error indicates a serious hardware problem. Sometimes it may mean a part is damaged and will need replacing. This usually occurs due to mismatch of the chips if you have more than one chip for the RAM. One way around this problem is to enter the BIOS settings and increase the wait state of the Ram. This can make it more stable. When handling Ram try not to touch the gold connections, as they can be easily damaged.

  • The other Problem is the Hard Disk Problem. After a few weeks, the information on a hard disk drive starts to become piecemeal or fragmented. It is a good idea to defragment the hard disk every week or so, to prevent the disk from causing a screen freeze. Go to * Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Disk Defragmenter
    This will start the procedure. You will be unable to write data to the hard drive (to save it) while the disk is defragmenting, so it is a good idea to schedule the procedure for a period of inactivity using the Task Scheduler.
    The Task Scheduler should be one of the small icons on the bottom right of the Windows opening page (the desktop).
    Some lockups and screen freezes caused by hard disk problems can be solved by reducing the read-ahead optimisation. This can be adjusted by going to
    * Start-Settings-Control Panel-System Icon-Performance-File System-Hard Disk.
    Hard disks will slow down and crash if they are too full. Do some housekeeping on your hard drive every few months and free some space on it. Open the Windows folder on the C drive and find the Temporary Internet Files folder. Deleting the contents (not the folder) can free a lot of space. The Other way to free the space is by making the recycle bin empty more often, like in a week or so. What I usually do is, I never put anything in the recycle bin. I use Shift+Del key to directly delete something from my computer.  Hard disk drives should be scanned every week for errors or bad sectors. Go to
    * Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-ScanDisk.
  • The other kind of error is Fatal OE exceptions and VXD errors. This error is cause due to the video cards in your computer. This can easily be prevented my reducing the resolution in your computer. For this  goto * Right click in a empty spot on desktop>click properties>goto settings and there will be the slider. Use it to change the resolution.
  • The most common problem a lot of people experience is Viruses, Spywares and Adwares that enter your computer without permission or with permission by deceiving the people while using internet. The most common symptom that your computer shows when affected with the virus is the instability. I would personally recommend using Kaspersky or Bitdefender as Antivirus but I use ESET NOD32 antivirus. And for the anti-spyware I recommend using CounterSpy from sunbelt.Contact me if you need more assistance to find the right one for you.
  •  The other common problem could be over heating. Central processing units (CPUs) are usually equipped with fans to keep them cool. If the fan fails or if the CPU gets old it may start to overheat and generate a particular kind of error called a kernel error. This is a common problem in chips that have been overclocked to operate at higher speeds than they are supposed to. One remedy is to get a bigger better fan and install it on top of the CPU.
  •  The final major cause of the computer crash is also the software installation and old registry. Sometimes when you install something that is not compatible with your windows then that may cause your computer to crash yet again. So, check the computer software compatibility before buying it and help yourself. And when you uninstall a software then the records may still be there are at the registry. That will make your computer to have the old registry which needs to be cleaned up frequently too. The software I would recommend for this purpose could be advanced system optimizer and or fix-it utilities.
 So, follow the rules for these computers and you will be able to keep healthy with less crash experience.
